WHERE: ONLINE VIA ZOOM

This two hour workshop is suitable for new beginners and students in their first couple of years of flamenco study who want to learn theory and foundational technique exercises. Students will receive a practice video following the workshop.
We'll cover the basics of flamenco dance: posture, arm/hand movements, correct body technique for footwork and overall flamenco movement theory. We'll also talk about rhythm (known as compás) and the various styles of flamenco (known as palos) and how to differentiate between them. We'll cover some flamenco history and talk about the development of the art form both in and out of Spain.
No special shoes or dance space are required for this workshop. We will be doing movement, discussion and viewing short videos to support our conversations about history and context. Questions are encouraged! Students will receive an outline in pdf format in advance of the workshop to use as a study guide.
